Tribù Nomad collection

Monica Armani kept Nomad short: a lounge chair, a chair and a pouf. It is a collection for one corner of a terrace, not a scheme for the whole of it.

The collection

Nomad in one paragraph

Three pieces, three jobs. The lounge chair is the one you sit back in with a book, the chair keeps a straighter back for a table or a rail view, and the pouf moves — a footrest when the chair is occupied, a seat when someone else arrives, out of the way the rest of the time. On a 10-by-14 balcony that combination leaves room to walk.

Tribù has been building outdoor furniture in Belgium since 1966 and is still run by the founding family, now in its third generation. The American side of the business works out of Carrollton, Texas, and the brand opened a 5,000-square-foot flagship on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles in 2023, which is the one place in the country to sit in several collections in a single afternoon.

Tribù publishes very little about how Nomad is built. Rather than guess at frame material and finish here, we send the current spec sheet with the quote, along with the fabric range and lead time. Ask for it by collection name and we will include the pieces you are weighing up.

Placement matters more with a small collection because there is nowhere to hide a mistake. Under a covered loggia in Charleston the pieces stay dry and the cushions last; in Phoenix, lighter fabrics stay cooler against bare legs in July; on a coastal deck, rinse the frames with fresh water every few weeks and take the cushions in for winter.

Build

How a Nomad piece is layered

  1. Outdoor fabric cover

Tribù fabrics. Ask for swatches and judge them outdoors, not under a showroom light.

  2. Cushion

Supplied with the seating pieces. Stand cushions on edge to dry rather than leaving them flat under a cover.

  3. Frame

Carries the seat. Material and finish are on the spec sheet we send with the quote.

  4. Feet and deck

Anything that stands outdoors shifts with the boards. Check the footing at the start of each season.
