Tosca in one paragraph

The lounger adjusts at the back, so it goes from flat for sleeping to upright for reading without anyone getting off it. The braid runs around the shell and stops above the deck, which keeps the woven part clear of the water that stands on a pool surround after the cleaner has been through. A cushion and one bolster, and there is nothing else to carry in.

Wide braid is the collection's signature and the reason it photographs the way it does. Each band is broad and flat rather than round, and the bands cross over one another so the surface catches light in big facets instead of fine lines. Up close it looks like woven belting. From across a terrace it reads as one soft mass.

Ten pieces is a whole terrace. Lounger, sofa, lounge chair, armchair, daybed, counter-height chair, low dining chair, dining table, low dining table and low tables. The counter-height chair matters if your outdoor kitchen has a raised bar rather than a standard table, and the low dining table paired with the low dining chair is a second way to eat outside, closer to lounge height than to dining height.

Legs are slim, tapered and powder-coated, and the frames in the factory's own photography run from a pale sand tone to a darker brown. Covers wash to the label. Give the braid a soft brush and soapy water and leave the pressure washer alone, because it drives water into the weave faster than the weave can shed it. Tosca is quoted on request, and the Beverly Boulevard store in Los Angeles is where you can lie on the lounger before you commit to one.

How a Tosca piece is layered

Extra-wide braid

Broad flat bands woven over the shell. They drain in minutes and give the collection its facets.
Seating shell

The rounded body the braid is wrapped around. It holds the cushion in place and takes the load.
Cushion

Loose on every seating piece. Stand it on edge after rain so both faces dry instead of one.
Tapered legs

Slim and powder-coated, set under a heavy-looking shell. Note the finish name so a later piece matches.
