Lievore Altherr Molina took the way a tree divides and used it for the legs. Every leg in Branch forks before it reaches the ground, which is where the collection gets its name and its silhouette.

Branch in one paragraph

The frames are thin powder-coated tube, and the fork is the only detail on them. The designers wanted the furniture to hold on to a tie with nature, and they put that in the shape rather than in the material. From across a garden a Branch chair reads as a few drawn lines with a seat between them.

Seat and back are flat cord woven by hand over that frame. The back is worked open, in a grid wide enough to see the planting through; the seat is closed up tighter because it takes the load. Water runs off both, so nothing in the collection needs to come inside when it rains.

Five pieces. The side chair and armchair stack, so a set of them stores flat in a garage corner between seasons. The lounger takes a full-length pad and an adjustable back for the sun. The dining table seats a proper meal, and the bistro table is small enough for a balcony railing or a corner by the door.

Powder coat is the part to watch near the ocean. Rinse the frames with fresh water every few weeks in salt air and the finish stays put; let salt dry on them in Miami or Newport and it chalks sooner. The cord weave takes soap, water and a soft brush, nothing stronger.

How a Branch piece is layered

Solution-dyed acrylic cover

The pad cover. Color sits inside the fiber, so a season of sun takes it down evenly rather than blotching it.
Quick-dry foam pad

Thin open-cell pad on top of the weave. It drains through the base instead of holding water.
Hand-woven flat cord

Worked by hand across the frame — tight under the seat, open across the back so you can see through it.
Powder-coated frame

Thin tube that forks near the floor. The coat is the weather layer, so keep salt rinsed off it.
